I'm sure we've all heard that joke. I am considering going off to Law School. Why? Well... I suppose it is due to the fact that I CAN!! I figured I needed a "real" degree after getting a BA and a MA (AB and AM I suppose if you speak Latin, but Artium Baccalaureus and Artium Magister just sounds weird), so why not add a LLB to the name (or Legum Baccalaureus for the Latin inclined). My parents were kind of excited when I said that I was considering going to Law School. I cannot think of parents who would support their kid through 3 degrees. I am very thankful for that.
They were so excited that they told all their lawyer friends (and they have many lawyer friends). I have yet to even put ink to an application form, and every lawyer my family knows has the news already. According to my mum I already have a pupillage lined up. It really is weird. My parents have always been supportive, but this borders on madness. Oh well, I'm not complaining since I get to be pupil to one of the best lawyers around. What person would complain? Yet all of this hinges on me actually getting into NUS Law first. Haha... I may not get in after all. At graduation the other day, we were all joking how Harry Potter would show up soon. And I made the lame joke that in 1452 we'd be the height of fashion (yes the gowns have not changed at all since 1452, and if you think that is bad wait until you check out what priests wear, that is so 500AD). Yeah, shifting the cord from one side to the other may seem dumb now, but if you wore a mortar board everyday (yes they did), it let everyone else know that you were graduated unlike those undergrads. And yes we did get our hoods. Haha... Which was fun because Dan and I put them on and looked like the Emperor from Starwars. I know it's childish, but in 1452 they wore it like that (Ed: the date is arbitrary folks), or so I think. Why put hoods on your clothes if you weren't going to use it? Makes no sense. I was hoping for a Tam, but unfortunately there is no standardized rule, and my old undergrad school gave them to Masters Candidates but not my current school. Heh... Oh well... I also did not get to keep the hood. Sob sob... If I do the LLB program I guess I'll get a whole new lot of items. As for the PhD... Well maybe I just have to wait until I come up with that brilliant original idea that would shake the world up. Or invent a new school of thought. Heh... Well the jet lag ain't helping. Need to be off to apply for my Singapore driving license and also to pay for the new car. It's here waaaaayyyyyy earlier than they quoted. Maeh...
